Shut the Box Game Rules

Aim of the game:

The aim of the game is to lower as many numbers as possible onto the board. The player with the fewest points at the end of the game wins.

Material:

• A game board with numbers from 1 to 10
• Two dice

Game progress:

Setup: All numbers on the board are noted.

Game round:

• The player rolls both dice.
• He adds the two sides of the dice.
• He can lower one or more numbers on the board whose sum is equal to the result of the dice.
• He can lower a number using a single die (for example, if the die shows 5, he can lower the 5).
• He can lower two numbers using both dice (for example, if the dice show 3 and 4, he can close the 3 and 4).
• If the player cannot lower any numbers, his turn is over.

End of the tour:

• The player adds up the points of the numbers that remain on the board.
• It's the next player's turn.

End of the game:

• The game ends after a predetermined number of turns (usually 10).
• The player with the fewest points wins the game.

Variants:

• Variant 1: The player can use subtraction, multiplication and division to lower the numbers.
• Variant 2: The player can lower a number using only one die, but then he must pay a penalty (e.g. 1 point).
• Variant 3: The player who lowers all the numbers wins the game.

Advice:

• Try to lower the highest numbers first.
• Use number combinations to lower multiple numbers in one turn.
• Be strategic and think about your moves.

Tips:

• For beginners, it is advisable to start with the simple version of the game (addition only).
• You can play in teams for more fun.
